The Emperor is the third book in The Dark Verse series written by New York Times bestselling author Runyx. The story follows Dante Maroni, the mafia prince, heir to the powerful Tenebrae Outfit, and Amara Rossi, the daughter of the Maroni housekeeper, and their forbidden love. Having grown up with Dante since childhood, Amara and Dante share a bond, that evolves into something much deeper. A ruthless empire of death is born where Dante plays the role of a reluctant king, and Amara his inevitable queen. The story involves missing girls and the syndicate as Amara and Dante discover dark secrets about their deadly underworld. The book explores genres such as crime, power, revenge, trauma, dark romance, mafia romance, forbidden romance, friends to lovers, mystery, second chance, betrayal, suspense, found family, abuse, thriller, slow burn, forced proximity, and violence.
Amara Rossi, a bright, cheerful, kind and curious girl, grows up as the housekeeper’s daughter in the Maroni compound with her best friend Vin. She observes Dante Maroni, the mafia prince and heir to the Maroni empire, from afar and admires him. Long before she knows it, she develops a crush on him and become friends with Dante, who is quite older than her.
Their world is cruel, and there are certain boundaries that they must never cross, such as falling in love with each other, and Dante Maroni knows it. Growing up, witnessing his mother’s suicide, his father’s cruelty, and looking after his younger brother, Dante has learned manipulation. When he is ordered to kill his first love, he learns that love is a weakness, one that he can never afford, and so he learns to wear a mask and manipulate people.
At the age of fifteen, Amara gets kidnapped, abused, and tortured by the syndicate, losing herself in the process and damaging her vocal cords. She is rescued by Tristan Caine and Dante Maroni, who blames himself for what happened to Amara. When Lorenzo Maroni finds out about his son’s affection for the girl, he banishes Amara to Shadow Port, where she is forced to live alone, without her mother. She survives trauma, panic attacks, loneliness, and her heartbreak from Dante’s rejection of her feelings.
The story discusses about how their tragic love story progresses and how Dante Maroni takes over the empire and makes Amara his queen, meanwhile facing betrayals and discovering dark secrets about their world. Just how long will this game of cruelty continue, and can Amara ever recover from her trauma? Will they ever get the life they dreamt of in such a ruthless world, and just how long do they have to wait for each other to finally be together?
Was this the best book I have ever read? Yes, definitely yes! This was no doubt my favorite part of the whole series. I already loved Amara and Dante so much, and their story was super wholesome, painful, and just so very perfect. This was the first novel that had a female lead whose personality was the same as mine. That’s one of the many reasons why I am so attached and obsessed with Amara.
The scenes and the dynamic between Dante and Amara was so good, it made me cry a lot, and I have never cried over a book this much. I loved so many quotes from this book, it was beautifully written, and I was afraid of finishing it, letting go of it but, I guess I’ll just have to cherish it forever.
This couple goes at the top of my couple list, with Dante being my very top-rated book characters. Dante is so kind, funny, charming, and handsome. How he cares for Amara is so comforting, and sweet and how he makes it his responsibility to protect her forever. Amara is such a sweet girl and totally a hopeless romantic. I love how she waited for Dante for years and she is so strong for enduring pain and coping with it alone. She is also very forgiving and kind. And that’s what makes them both a power couple.
This book actually helped me heal a lot and comforted me in my bad times. It will always hold a special place in my heart. I’m really sad that their story was just one book and it came to an end, though there will be more about them in the last part of the series. I will miss them a lot.
My favorite scenes were when Dante and Amara were tied together and how he calmed her down and saved her. How they both fought their way out together and how Dante praised Amara so much and called her his warrior queen. I loved it when he made her wear heels and helped her dance on unbalanced feet. I loved how he loved her scars and her damaged voice, her soft and gentle personality and just how perfectly they both balanced each other.
I absolutely loved Dante and Amara’s slow-burn relationship and I am so glad they got together in the end and became parents. Overall, this book was a five-star for me and I can never replace it. I recommend that you read this part because it is just so comforting and wholesome.
The Predator was the first part in the series. Dark Verse is a total of six books in the series, with each character having their own story in every book, with Tristan and Morana in the first two parts, The Predator and The Reaper. Amara and Dante are in the third part in The Emperor. Zephyr and Alpha in the fourth part in The Finisher, and Shadowman and Lyla in the fifth part, The Annihilator. The last part, The Syndicator, follows these four couples, every character getting their own chapters, and wraps up the entire Dark Verse Series.
This part was the first and last story of Dante and Amara, but don’t worry! We will see them again in the other parts too, and we will read their story more in the last part. Don’t drop the series if it’s not interesting yet, because in the later parts it gets even more intense and you’ll find yourself unable to put the book down.
